This beautifully crafted film tells the story of two arctic predators, a gyr falcon and a wolf, both brilliant white, and both struggling to raise families in the short arctic summer. Their home is a valley on Ellesmere Island, where for just a few months each year the snows melt and the landscape turns from white to brown to green, and the race to breed begins.
The wolf pack has a den on a hillside, the gyr parents an eyrie on a cliff towering above the sea. For both families, success or failure will depend on their hunting prowess, and on the number of arctic hares, lemmings and birds which fluctuates every year.
Jonny Keeling describes an unforgettable encounter with the wolves during the filming of this programme in his Love Earth blog
