This video is part of the Lost Treasures of the Ancient World series that investigates some of the ancient civilizations of the world. Lost Treasures of the Ancient World: Pompeii looks at the tragic end of this city, when a nearby volcano, Mt. Vesuvius, erupted in 79 A.D. The city was covered in lava and ash. The city remained frozen in time until its rediscovery in the 1700s. While Pompeii has been pillaged for over 200 years, there are still many clues that tell archaeologists what life was like in this ancient Italian city. Computer graphics re-create the tremendous volcanic blast that destroyed the doomed city. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, Rovi.
