BBC Documentary : Atom (Complete Series)

BBC: Atom - Clash Of Titans:
The first of three programmes in which nuclear physicist Professor Jim Al-Khalili tells the story of the greatest scientific discovery ever - that everything is made of atoms. As scientists delved deep into the atom, into the very heart of matter, they unravelled nature's most shocking secrets. They had to abandon everything they believed in and create a whole new science, which today underpins the whole of physics, chemistry, biology and maybe even life itself.

The series tells a story of geniuses like Albert Einstein and Werner Heisenberg who were driven by their thirst for knowledge and glory. It is a story of false starts and conflicts, ambition and revelation, a story which leads us through some of the most exciting and exhilarating ideas ever conceived by the human race.

BBC Documentary : Atom - The Key To The COSMOS:
The second in Professor Jim Al-Khalili's three-part documentary about the basic building block of our universe, the atom. He shows how, in our quest to understand the tiny atom, we unravelled the mystery of how the universe was created. It's a story with dramatic twists and turns, taking in world-changing discoveries like radioactivity, the atom bomb and the big bang. All this forms part of an epic narrative in which the greatest brains of the 20th century competed to answer the biggest questions of all - why are we here and how were we made?

BBC DOCUMENTARY :ATOM - The illusion of reality:

The final part of Professor Jim Al-Khalili's documentary series about the basic building block of our universe, the atom.  Al-Khalili explores how studying the atom forced us to rethink the nature of reality itself, encountering ideas that seem like they are from science fiction but in fact are a central part of modern science. He discovers that there might be parallel universes in which different versions of us exist and finds out that empty space is not empty at all, but seething with activity.  The world we think we know - the solid, reassuring world of our senses - turns out to be a tiny sliver of an infinitely weirder and more wonderful universe than we had ever conceived in our wildest fantasies.

History Channel: Ape to Man (HDTV)

APE TO MAN examines the major discoveries that have led us to the understanding we have today, including theories that never gained full acceptance in their time, an elaborate hoax that confused the scientific community for years, and the ultimate understanding of the key elements that separate man from apes.

It has long been considered the most compelling question in our history: Where do human beings come from? Although life has existed for millions of years, only in the past century-and-a-half have we begun to use science to explore the ancestral roots of our own species. The search for the ultimate answer has taken a number of twists and turns, with careers made and broken along the way. APE TO MAN is the story of the quest to find the origins of the human race - a quest that spanned more than 150 years of obsessive searching.

The search for the origins of humanity is a story of bones and the tales they tell. It was in 1856 that the first bones of an extinct human ancestor were encountered, unearthed by a crew of unskilled laborers digging for limestone in Western Europe. The find, which would be known as Neanderthal Man, was seeing the light of day for the first time in more than 40,000 years. At the time, the concept of a previous human species was virtually unthinkable. Yet just a few years later, Charles Darwin's work The Origin of Species first broached the subject of evolution, and by the end of the nineteenth century, it had become the hottest topic of the age. Adventurers had embarked on the search for the Missing Link, the single creature that represented the evolutionary leap from apes to humans.

Extreme Machines: The Fastest Vehicle On Land - Thrust SSC

Thrust SSC holds the World Land Speed Record, set on 15 October 1997, when it achieved a speed of 1,228 km/h (763 mph) and became the first car to officially break the sound barrier.
During a run in the Black Rock Desert in 1997, this jet car became the first automobile to break through the sound barrier. Two Rolls Royce Spey jet engines powered the 10-ton vehicle and produced 50,000 pounds of thrust and 110,000 hp–91 times more horsepower than the fastest street-legal car. It accelerated from 0 to 600 in 16 seconds and subjected its driver to 3 g's. Most wheels would explode under these conditions, so engineers custom designed aluminum-alloy wheels that were tested to spin at 9500 rpm. Currently, a new car, the Bloodhound SSC, is being created with the goal of breaking the land speed record. It is designed to accelerate to 1000 mph.

Biography: COKE vs. PEPSI: A Duel Between Giants

An all-American saga born amidst the ruins of the American Civil War, a saga of a hundred-year-old war between two economic giants whose financial weight can be calculated in the billions.

The competitive struggle between these two brands has come to embody the very spirit of America and its influence on the rest of the world. This incredible and sometimes disturbing success story is at times cynical, often heroic, and always fascinating.

Neither Coke nor Pepsi wished to officially participate in this documentary which chronicles their long standing combat. The two marketing and communication giants usually choose to remain discreet, unless it involves promoting their own product.

Along with Mark Prendergrast, the unofficial ‘biographer’ of Coca- Cola, several industry players (former directors, ad execs, collectors etc) describe how the war between the two titans has echoed our economic history over the decades, sometimes even making history of its own, such as when Coke’s ambitions spilled into Communist Chinaor when Pepsi decided to use Soviet leader Krushchev as a publicity icon without his knowledge.

Anecdotes and archives bring the Pepsi v Coke epic to life and reveal often controversial and underhanded strategies, such as the brands’ multi-milion campaigns to secure exclusive distribution deals in certain towns and schools.

The war between the two rivals today has crossed into new territory, like the bottled water market, but still remains faithful to its original goal: appealing to young people the world over. Many have claimed that ‘Coke’ is the second best known word all around the world after OK.
The leader, Coke, and its ever present challenger Pepsi are united in one all consuming objective:that whatever the world drinks, be it soft drinks , fruit juice or bottled juice - may it be a product from their respective factories.
